CuZn39Pb3 is the most widely used brass alloy for machining and is regarded as the reference against which the machinability of all other copper materials is measured. The lead content breaks the chip reliably, which makes the material the classic drilling and turning quality for automatic lathe machining. Under EN it is designated CW614N, in the trade and in drawings usually as Ms58, and the earlier DIN number is 2.0401.
Hot forming and drop forging work well, whereas cold formability is limited.
