Construction material. The main areas of application are water and steam fitting housings up to 255 °C, pump housings and thin-walled, intricate castings and turned parts for mechanical and apparatus engineering and shipbuilding. Is usually replaced as a bearing material with Cu Sn7 Zn4 Pb7-C today.

Commonest, low-budget gun metal alloy for slide bearings. Still has good dry-running properties and sufficient wear resistance at medium hardness. Also suitable when unhardened shafts and light edge pressure are being used. Short-chipping material, good machinability, good corrosion resistance (even in seawater), soft solderable and to a limited extent hard solderable. The main areas of application are slide bearings and bearing bushings for general mechanical engineering.

Tough and hard material with good wear resistance, also suitable for high sliding speeds. Good corrosion resistance (even in seawater). Especially suitable for parts that have to bear surface pressures and impacts at the same time and are also subjected to friction wear. Resistant to cavitation stress. Highly stressed worm rims, cylinder inserts, gibs and slide bars. This alloy was used to develop CuSn11Pb2-C, which has improved dry-running properties and machinability.

Tough and hard bearing material with good wear resistance and good dry-running properties. Good corrosion resistance (even in seawater). Similar properties to those of Cu Sn 12-C, comparatively better machinability due to the addition of the lead. Edge pressure must be avoided. Suitable for slide bearings with high load peaks, highly stressed gibs and slide bars.
